October 20th 8 PM – Haunted History Tour and Movie Night

Take a tour of the Stewart House and learn about the family who used to live in the Historical Society…but don’t look over your shoulder!  ($3 Members and $5 for non-members)  Our movie will begin at 9:30 PM and we are showing George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (This portion of the event is free).

October 28th 6 PM – Kids Trick or Treat Tour

Go about the rooms of the Stewart House and meets some historic people and hear their stories and get some candy!  Crafts and Halloween fun for kids!

September 14 5PM – 7:30 PM – Fall Meeting Dinner

Our annual Fall Meeting dinner will feature a World War I theme and a speaker to speak on the era.

Location: Premier Events on East Orange Street.

September 15 5:30 – ? – Movie Night featuring What Price Glory?

What Price Glory (1952) featuring James Cagney will be our feature.  We are showing this film to honor our World War I veterans.

September 9th 1 PM – Locust Grove Cemetery Tour

Learn about Shippensburg’s African American history by touring this historic cemetery!  This tour is being held in part due to the Cumberland County Heritage Festival Week.

August 26th 8AM – 4PM – 37th Annual Corn Festival

Our doors will be open to the public.  Check out the house, take a tour, and become a member of our organization!

August 19th (Lions Club Pavilion) 5 PM – 7PM – 2nd Annual Community Picnic

The Shippensburg Historical Society is excited to present the return of last years Community Picnic.  Menu will be pulled pork sandwiches, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw.  Tickets are $5 for members and $7 non-members.

Join us for fun and classic summer movie!  We will be showing The Big Trail (1930) which is John Wayne’s first major feature!  This western also features an uncredited role of well known Chambersburg-native actor, screenwriter, and director: William V. Mong.

Time:  Doors open at 5:30. Presentation and movie start at 6.

 

Civil War Walking Tour (Rain Date) July 21st – 7:30

Weather did not cooperate with us back in June, but do not fear!  The Shippensburg Historical Society will be having a rain date tour for those who could not make it last month and for those who cancelled due to rain.  Admission is free.

June 23 7:30 – Civil War Walking Tour

Join us for a step back into 1863 as we  learn about the Confederate Occupation of Shippensburg from June 24 -27 1863 on the eve of the Battle of Gettysburg.  Hear stories of soldiers, families, and a community preparing for the arrival of gray-clad troops.

May 19 5:30 PM – Movie Night Featuring Star Wars Night #1

Join us at the History Center May 19 for a screening of Star Wars (1977). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The presentation and film begin at 6:00 p.m. Fresh-popped corn, soda, and candy concessions will be available.

May 20 3 PM – Tour of Spring Hill Cemetery

Location: Spring Hill Cemetery on Morris Street.  Meet at the flagpole

April 29 12-4 PM –  Shippensburg Historical Society BrewFest

The Shippensburg Historical Society is proud to present its first ever BrewFest.  The event will include craft brews and spirits from local breweries and distilleries, food, and live music!  Breweries in attendance are New Belgium, Yards, Starr Hill, Flying Fish, Jack’s Hard Cider, and Faber Distillery.  With every admission, each attendee will get a pint glass with the Shippensburg Historical Society logo on it.

Location: 52 W. King Street, Shippensburg, PA
Time: 12-4 PM
Price: $25 for Event Pass, $5 for designated driver pass,  add on $5 to any admission to become a member of the Shippensburg Historical Society

March 16 5pm- Whiskey Devils & Rum Fiends: Temperance and Prohibition in Shippensburg

Join us on March 16 at Premiere Events to learn about more about Shippensburg’s role in the Temperance Movement. Our featured speaker for the evening is Amber Noecker. Our historic themed menu consists of walnut and cranberry mixed green salad, baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, and dinner roll with apple pie and ice cream for dessert.
Location: Premiere Events, 429 E. Orange Street, Shippensburg, PA
Time: 5pm social hour (including our historic Mocktails!), dinner will be served at 6pm
Price: $14 per ticket

Join us at the History Center February 17 for a screening of The Maltese Falcon (1941). Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The presentation and film begin at 6:00 p.m. Fresh-popped corn, soda, and candy concessions will be available.
