Volunteer Opportunities

The Shippensburg Historical Society enjoys the active volunteer support of its members who donate their time and talents to help preserve Shippensburg’s history. The Historical Society always welcomes new volunteers whether they are long-time members who wish to get more active or new members who want to learn more about the Society and its work. Some of the possible volunteer opportunities include:

  • Working with the Society’s museum collections and creating exhibits
  • Helping to arrange and describe the Society’s archival collections
  • Providing tours of the Stewart House to visitors
  • Aiding researchers with historical or genealogical research
  • Assisting with the day-to-day administrative work of the Society
  • Volunteering to help with special events and programs
  • Maintaining the Society’s web page

If you have other ways that you would like to assist the Society, we would love to hear your ideas. To volunteer, please stop by the Historical Society, call 717-532-6727, send an email to info@shippensburghistory.org, or send a letter to:

Taking Your Education Further

College and High School students are invited to enrich their understanding of history through an internship at the Shippensburg Historical Society. College students can receive college credits and gain practical work experience in a museum setting. Interns may help care for the collections, offer tours, conduct research, help design exhibits, or help with the day-to-day work of running a local historical society. Interested students should be responsible, able to work independently, and enjoy history.

If you are interested, please discuss the internship requirements with your teacher or college advisor and return the internship information below to the Historical Society at info@shippensburghistory.org.

You may also mail it to:
